Wounded Warrior Project
Written by Joe Wright
Wounded Warrior Project is a charity which offers a variety of programs and services for wounded veterans. I didn’t know much about the project prior to receiving a call from my brother who said “David Gray’s been killed in Afghanistan.” David was not only my best childhood friend, but one of the best men I’ve ever known. We played youth football together, capture-the-flag in the woods, water skied and I was honored to serve as a groomsman in his wedding. He was one of the good guys. In the summer of 2012 during Operation Enduring Freedom; my friend, Major W. David Gray; a Tactical Air Control Airman from the 13th Air Support Operations Squadron was killed when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device which killed David and 2 other military officers. That phone call rocked my world. Even after all these years I’m still trying to make sense of why God would take such a good man who offered the world so much. Over the years I’ve found myself giving my time and money to the Wounded Warrior Project. They’re a great charity who recognize the huge sacrifice our military service men, women and families give to protect us all.
